<![CDATA[New Songs, New Gear, Big Dreams]]>Fri, 24 Feb 2012 04:12:45 GMThttp://woodlivemusic.com/blog/new-songs-new-gear-big-dreamsValentine's Day - check! We played at Beehive Grill and gave our Fender Passport 500 system its maiden voyage. The delightfully small-packaged system put out like the girlfriend you've never had! (Meaning it sounded good.) Between that and our djembe - we gave a rather impressive Valentine's gig. Note - we absolutely did play "Kiss the Girl" from the Little Mermaid.

Beyond that, we've been adding gear to our studio like pack-rats. New subs are on their way to supplement the DJ/PA-renting front. We're collecting more speakers to handle the high end as well as a new 5-string Gretsch bass guitar for Sir Shifty. And I'm rocking a Blue Encore 200 mic now.

We've been arranging some new songs too. High energy ones with the full band. Bryce has been a lyrical whirlwind, and we're all trying to keep up. Be prepared for a song called Spaceman, one inspired by Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing", and one for our growing Scottish fans tentatively called "William Wallace" among others.

We've also been prepping a lot of cover songs from all sorts of genres. So shoot us a comment if you've got one you really want to hear.

We'll keep you posted as we truck along! Look for a video or two soon.

<![CDATA[Chad Hogan\'s Party on BBC!]]>Fri, 10 Feb 2012 01:11:21 GMThttp://woodlivemusic.com/blog/chad-hogans-party-on-bbcWe were featured on the first "Kevin Bridges - What's the Story?" episode. We're the band from Chad Hogan's party! (Never mind the kick-drum had an old Three Weeks logo on it.)
We played a handful of songs that night, and the two that were on the show were Green Day's Basket Case and of course, The Proclaimer's 500 Miles. Be sure to "Like" us on Facebook to see where we play next!
<![CDATA[TV in the UK, Documentary, Dreams and Goals]]>Sat, 21 Jan 2012 20:28:56 GMThttp://woodlivemusic.com/blog/tv-in-the-uk-documentary-dreams-and-goalsSo we just got back from playing an acoustic gig at Sundance Film Festival in Park City. Thanks to Molly Blooms for having us come play! And props to John and Nat Bluegrass Jam, that upright bass was awesome! We did a little promo for a local clothing company (Creative Threads) while we were down there, and we met some cool travelers from down under at the pub that night. Top blokes, those Aussies!

Speaking of overseas, our performance at Chad Hogan's party should be airing on BBC One next month. We're looking to prepare some more videos and songs before it hits so our Scottish friends and other fans of Kevin Bridges will know where to find us.

Also - we'll post the footage from New Year's Eve once it's done being edited. Pictures are up already - check them out! Special thanks to John Poppleton of Poppleton Portraits for running the cameras that night! Here's a shot from that night:
With the full band, we've been developing our electric sound. Let us know of any cover songs you want to hear the us do - we can play anything now. We'll also be doing a brief introduction video with the full band as part of a planned documentary - so if you don't know all of us yet, you will soon.

We've been combining ideas and aligning goals. With the studio finished, we're able to spend the time and make plans happen. Next week's agenda includes hitting up the Royal Bliss and Bobaflex show in The Complex to see how the pros do it - we'll come away inspired.

We've also been recording others in the studio, so if anyone wants to cut a song or album, contact us and schedule a time with Stuart.
<![CDATA[Sundance, New Line Up, Finished Studio]]>Thu, 12 Jan 2012 22:19:45 GMThttp://woodlivemusic.com/blog/sundance-new-line-up-finished-studioAhoy! So it's been a fortnight or two since the last post, and a wealth of changes have happened. Firstly, thanks to all who came to Hawn's for New Year's Eve. We'll get some pictures and videos up from it soon.

With the new year, Wood planned out goals and aspirations. We're excited for the new direction we're taking! Foremost among the new changes is our bass guitarist: Skyler Smith has gone on to other projects, and we thank him for his rocktronic time with Wood. Nick "Shifty" Tak brings with him a bass guitar, among several other instruments, and loads of gigging experience. Nick also acts as the guitar technician, as he owns ATTAK Guitars.

The studio has been revamped, cleaned, geared up and Christened. We've had a few recording artists come visit and we've held several rehearsals. Come check us out at 3000 N Main, N. Logan, STE 2B.

Our acoustic act has increased to three people, and Kent Scott has got his tribal on with our new toy (picture to the left), the Djembe!

With that acoustic act, we're headed to Sundance Film Festival on Thursday the 19th. We'll be at Molly Bloom's Bar/Restaurant from 8:30 to 9:45pm. If you're up for checking out the festival, be sure to come give us a listen!

Speaking of films, we're planning to do a documentary of the band members and we'll post the interviews and tidbits as they get edited.

<![CDATA[Making Music Videos]]>Thu, 15 Dec 2011 10:24:28 GMThttp://woodlivemusic.com/blog/making-music-videosThis has been quite a busy month. We've played at Utah State University's new Artist's Block & Cafe in Logan, UT; Pier 49 Pizza in Providence, UT; Hawn's Lounge in Hyrum, UT; Wild Bean Roasting Co. in Sandy, UT; and most recently in John Poppleton Studio in Wellsville, UT. John has been helping us create a few more videos of cover songs and this Saturday we'll be filming our first music video for our original song: World of Ashes.

Here's one of the videos we just shot - it's a cover of The Killers' song "Human":
Hope you like it! John will film us playing a live full-band show featuring Rusty Price this New Year's Eve out at Hawn's Lounge in Hyrum. If you're in Cache Valley, you'll want to be there. We've also been meeting with Stars Talent Group and hope to be showing up in more venues across UT and surrounding states.
<![CDATA[Chad Hogan's Party]]>Sun, 04 Dec 2011 01:29:19 GMThttp://woodlivemusic.com/blog/chad-hogans-party1Kevin Bridges came to Logan, UT to attend Chad Hogan's party. (See the previous post to see why this happened...) Wood played at the party, and had a killer time! Here's a picture of us sound checking:
A Scottish film crew flew in to shoot the party, which will become an episode in a six-part series on BBC. The series will air this coming February. The Scottish producers were great to deal with, and we were excited to be a part of it all. Chad Hogan's party is no Scottish empty!

Thanks to all who came, especially the bikini babes.
<![CDATA[TV in the UK]]>Wed, 16 Nov 2011 17:32:57 GMThttp://woodlivemusic.com/blog/chad-hogans-partyThis week will be one for the record books.

Last Saturday I got a message from my friend Jason Hogan. He mentioned some strange thing about his younger brother Chad Hogan and about a Scottish comedian named Kevin Bridges. He asked if I wanted to be the band for some party...

Here's the connection between Kevin Bridges and Chad Hogan:
"Chad Hogan" is just a name Kevin came up with. But after he did that show in Glasglow for over 10,000 people, the ripple started. Chad Hogan (the one living here in Logan) got pummeled with Facebook invites and emails from people in Scotland. Hundreds each day. So he emailed Kevin's producer, and let him know what was going on.

The producer got a kick out of the online attention, and suggested to throw an actual party at Chad's house, here in Logan. He called for another producer (affiliated with VH1) to fly in from LA and scope out the place as well as to interview Chad.

Kevin's producer is creating a TV series - behind the scenes, type of thing. They're recreating some of the events from Kevin's jokes too, and apparently the comparison of Chad Hogan's American party to Scotland's "Empties" is one of the biggest gags.

One thing led to another, and tomorrow Kevin and his crew will fly out to gear up for Chad Hogan's party.

Part of the joke is that Chad Hogan "booked a band for his living room". Chad didn't know anyone who plays, so he asked his brother Jason. Jason knew me, and that's how it all got set up. So we're booked to play at the party. It will be aired as a TV series across the UK. Kevin Bridges will be there, though I don't think he's planning to do any stand up. It's more of a filming thing.

We're pulling out all the stops: fog, lasers, lighting, live audio recording, video, stills... I'll be on an electric guitar with a couple pedals to mess with and I'll be singing back up, Bryce Wood is lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Bryce's brother Austin is also singing back up and playing the keys, Skyler Smith on bass, and Kent Scott on the skins. We'll have Stuart Olsen running the live audio recording, and Mark Lusk will be manning the light board and helping with the live mixing. John Poppleton of Poppleton Portraits will be doing the video and photo work. Justin Wasden may be present to help with some still photos too. Callee Christensen is working on a banner for us to put up behind the band.

Just in case we make it big in the UK, I bought a new domain for the website: www.WoodLiveMusic.co.uk
<![CDATA[Winter Plan]]>Fri, 28 Oct 2011 05:18:07 GMThttp://woodlivemusic.com/blog/winter-planAs many of you may know, several of our past shows were outdoors - thus they were weather dependent. As the winter months are upon us, we're looking to try out some new local venues. If you know of a place where we should play - jot it down in the comments below!

We'll be recording through the cold season, and we should have some pictures coming up soon from our latest photo shoot. Prepare yourself: they're going to look really good.

We're playing at Hawn's Lounge in Hyram, UT this Saturday. If you're into the pub-scene, come check us out at 8:30pm.
<![CDATA[Recording Studio and Talent Agency]]>Thu, 20 Oct 2011 00:25:41 GMThttp://woodlivemusic.com/blog/recording-studio-and-talent-agencyWood has been in Jay Richard's studio this past week recording 'World of Ashes'. The song is about terrorism, and the concept came as a request from an instructor at Utah State University who teaches a social issues class. Look for it on Wood's Reverbnation site soon.

Wood has also recently signed on with Stars Talent Agency and will be available for booking from their website soon. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

As the holiday season grows near, Wood will be performing at company parties, weddings, and all sorts of gatherings driven by the Christmas cheer. So grab your Santa hat and hop along to a show or two!

This upcoming month Wood will be playing in a Salt Lake City Restaurant or two, so if you have a home in Salt Lake City or somewhere nearby, prepare yourself for a good musical evening or two. The dates and venues will be posted on the Reverbnation and Facebook sites as gigs are booked.

New photos are up courtesy of Justin Wasden and John Poppleton.]]>
